Tournament Format

The tournament is run using an 'open' format, with no restriction on the gender of players and an age restriction of 14 years or older. Teams can be all male, all female, mixed, whatever you want, as long as there are between 5 and 6 players on court.

Teams will be placed into pools for the morning session and you will play everyone in your pool, possibly followed by a round of cross-over matches. The results from the morning will decide which division you play in for the afternoon matches, with the afternoon being knock-out matches leading to play-offs and finals for each division.

We run two separate competitions on the day - It's entirely up to you which one you enter:

What if it's raining?

If it is raining in the morning, we will contact the teams and check whether they still want to play or not. We have learned from previous years that we can still manage to get plenty of volleyball in, even on a wet day.

If you're coming from Winchester then use the north entrance (with the big IBM sign). Otherwise use the south entrance (at the traffic lights, with a large oak tree surrounded by a stone bench).

If you're coming from further away than Southampton, then the best route is the M3, exiting at Junction 12 and going through Otterbourne. Follow the signs for 'Hursley'. Once on site, follow the signs for 'South carpark'. There will be yellow 'Volleyball' signs for you to follow too!

Or check the venue out on Google Maps.

Tournament History

The Roke tournament has been running for at least 20 years, originally being held at Roke Manor near Romsey in Hampshire. In 2013 we moved to Hursley, just south of Winchester, which gave us more space to grow the tournament while maintaining the high level of facilities.
