Roke Open Tournament

2024 Tournament - Sunday 1st September

This year the Roke Volleyball Open Tournament will be held on Sunday 1st September

As usual, we are running an 'open' format, so there are no gender restrictions on the teams, and an age restriction of 14 years or older. Your team will be randomly seeded for the morning games, with the results deciding which division you play in for the afternoon games.

Teams should arrive for 9:30am, there will be a team briefing at 9:45am with matches starting at 10:00am

The entry fee is £50 per team

Tournament Details

What if it's raining?

If it is raining in the morning, we will contact the teams and check whether they still want to play or not. We have learned from previous years that we can still manage to get plenty of volleyball in, even on a wet day.

• If the tournament hasn't started by 12 noon due to the weather, then teams can choose to withdraw, and their entry fee will be returned (if paid)
• If the tournament hasn't started by 2pm due to bad weather, then we will officially cancel the tournament
• If the weather forecast is bad enough that we have to cancel, then we will contact the team representatives the day before the tournament

Venue

• The tournament takes place at Hursley House, in Hursley, just south of Winchester on the A3090. The postcode for your satnavs is 'SO21 2JN' (map below)

Facilities

• We hope to run a BBQ, pizza oven and a cake stall throughout the day
• There is a clubhouse on site which should be serving food and drink
• The clubhouse has toilets, changing rooms and showers
• The volleyball courts are on the outfield of the cricket pitch, so the ground is flat and level

Site rules

• If teams have gazebos they must not be set up on the outfield of the cricket pitch. They may be set up at the top of the slope, or on the outside of the pathway next to the courts
• Players must stay off of the cricket square. We are allowed on the outfield, but not the square. We expect it to be roped off on the day
• Dogs are allowed on site, as long as they are kept on a lead at all times
• The site is publicly accessible and you're free to walk around the gardens, but security might challenge you if you wander too far from the sports fields

Tournament History

The Roke tournament has been running for at least 20 years, originally being held at Roke Manor near Romsey in Hampshire. In 2013 we moved to Hursley, just south of Winchester, which gave us more space to grow the tournament while maintaining the high level of facilities.
